Now that I have a first grader who comes home with homework and reading assignments, there is always an endless list of to-do’s after school!
On top of school assignments, we also want to train him up into a civilized human being. Civilized human being = someone who will clean up after their mess and be responsible.
This includes washing lunch containers and putting dinner plates in the sink. On top of that, our little grade schooler needs to make sure his homework and planner are in his backpack the night before.
There is absolutely no time in the morning (nor brain space) to pack one’s bag. We’re already happy the backpack made it into the car with the kid!
Therefore, I decided to create a checklist for him to remind him all the things he needs to do after coming.
After School Checklist Printable
This after school checklist is super helpful because it allows your child to check off each item as they go. Visually, they can see what they have already finished. Mentally, they will be reminded of what still needs to be done.
The simple after school checklist consists of the following to-do’s:
Have you…
- Put shoes away?
- Hang up backpack?
- Used the restroom?
- Washed your hands?
- Cleaned out your lunchbox?
Also…
- Relax
- Finish homework
- Reading for _____ minutes (fill in the blank)
- Chores
- Lay out tomorrow’s clothes
- Pack your backpack
Additionally, there are several cute black and white graphics on the side for your child to color in and decorate if they like!
More After School Rules Printable
I ended up creating a few more variations of this checklist just because I thought these may be helpful to you (and who doesn’t love options?)
These 4 Versions have the following variations:
- Version 1: “After School Routines”
- Version 2: “__________’s After School Routines” (fill in the name)
- Version 3: “After School Rules” with fill in the blank at the bottom “Now you can _______”
- Version 4: “__________’s After School Rules” (fill in name) with “Now you can ___________” at the bottom.
This way, you can add a name to the checklist (useful if you have multiple children in your house), and add a reward for what your child gets to do after.
Simply download and print the version you need!

How to Print and Use Routines Checklist
There are many ways to make and use this checklist:
- Print on regular paper and place it inside a clear protector sheet. Use dry erase markers to check off each finished item. Erase (rubbing alcohol is great!) and reuse the next day.
- Print on regular paper and laminate. Use dry erase markers to check off each finished item. Erase and reuse.
- Place laminated checklist inside a photo frame. Hang or place photo frame somewhere visible (and easily accessible) so child can see and mark it daily.
- Print a new sheet for every day of the week.
I hope you find this little checklist helpful to your weekday routine!
