I just love love LOVE that the child’s participation is absolutely crucial to the completion of the card.
On top of that, these adorable cards are super meaningful and special to the ones receiving them (cue oohs and aaahs).
Handprint Turkey Poem
This adorable turkey handprint with poem comes with a sweet rhyming poem that reads:
This beautiful fall, with a thankful heart,
I created a simple piece of art.
Spreading my hands in different hues,
This turkey was made, just for you!
So cherish this card, it’s my love expressed,
For all that you are, I am truly blessed.
Then, to the right of the poem is a cute turkey without any feathers. This is specifically designed this way so your child’s handprints becomes the feathers.
Without your child’s handprints, the art piece itself will look super super empty and boring!
Finally, at the bottom of the printable is the text “Happy Thanksgiving!” in bold, fall-colored letters.

This thanksgiving turkey printable activity comes in PDF format so you can easily download and print. There are two versions available. One with the turkey wearing a pilgrim’s hat, and one without. Choose the version that you like!
Also, don’t forget to write the year on the back of the printable so you can remember how old the child is when looking back.
Easy Thanksgiving Craft For Kids
To make this simple Thanksgiving Turkey craft, you will need the following supplies:
- TURKEY HANDPRINTS POEM PRINTABLE – Link at bottom of Post
- WHITE CARD STOCK
- NON-TOXIC PAINT – I love this set of crayola paints because it also comes with glitter paint.
- DISPOSABLE PLATE or PAINT PAD
- FOAM PAINT BRUSH or REGULAR PAINT BRUSH – I used a piece of small foam
- DISPOSABLE TABLECLOTH – or anything to protect your work surface.
How to Make SIMPLE THANKSGIVING Hand print Craft
- First, print out TURKEY HANDPRINTS POEM (Link at bottom of post) on white card stock. Using cardstock adds durability if you are not planning to frame or laminate.
- Second, pour out non-toxic washable paint on a paper plate. I recommend using fall colors such as red, orange, or gold as it goes nicely with the turkey. However, if your child has a different favorite color they would rather use, feel free to use another color. It is after all, their artwork!
- Next, use a foam brush to evenly paint child’s hand.
- Then, help the child make a hand print right behind the turkey, in the white space.
- Allow hand print to dry. It doesn’t have to be completely dry, just dry enough where the paint won’t smudge when put a second handprint on.
- Repaint your child’s hand in a different color and make a second handprint next to the first handprint, overlapping a bit.
- Finally, allow handprint to dry complete and you are done!

Extra (optional) Touches for Handprint Turkey With Poem
- For preschool aged or older kids who can write, they can write “To: _________” at the top, and sign “Love, _________” at the bottom of the card.
- Print on regular paper and laminate for extra durability.
- Print on regular paper and put it in a photo frame as a nice display gift.
- After laminating, punch two holes at the top and thread a ribbon through. Use the ribbon to create a “hang loop” so this artwork can be hung up.
