I LOVE handprint art. First of all, they are such a special and unique keepsake gift that captures a snapshot of your child’s life. Secondly, handprint art is a fantastic (not to mention super easy!) way to have even the youngest kiddos be a part of their artwork.
Thirdly, I love them because your child’s participation is absolutely vital to the success of the art piece. Without your child’s handprint, the art piece would just look…dull and boring. The art work would be incomplete without a handprint.
As a result, I ended up creating a whole slew of read-to-print handprint art work that I know you are just going to LOVE. They are all available for free in the MindyMakes Library.

Christmas Nativity Handprint Craft
Today’s printable is a Christmas Nativity Handprint Art to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas season.
This simple printable consists of a nativity scene graphic at the bottom with blank space above for your child’s handprint. The handprint represents the star of Bethlehem that led the wise men to their newborn King.
On the upper right of the printable is the bible verse from Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Christmas Nativity Handprint ART PRINTABLE
This project is extremely quick and easy to make! Just download and print the blank artwork and you are ready to start. To grab the free printable, scroll to the bottom of the post and follow the instructions.
Next, simply paint your child’s palm with paint and have them stamp it in the blank space. Allow the paint to dry and there! You and your child have have just created a beautiful keepsake artwork to celebrate the arrival of our newborn King!
I recommend using yellow or gold paint for imprinting your child’s hands so that it resembles the star.
Easy Christmas Nativity Handprint ART
In order to create this simple and fun Christmas Nativity Handprint Art, you will need the following supplies:
- CHRISTMAS NATIVITY HAND PRINT ART FREE PRINTABLE – Link at bottom of post
- WHITE CARD STOCK
- GOLD ACRYLIC PAINT or YELLOW ACRYLIC PAINT
- DISPOSABLE PLATE or PAINT PAD
- FOAM PAINT BRUSH or REGULAR PAINT BRUSH – I used a piece of small foam
- DISPOSABLE TABLECLOTH – or anything to protect your work surface
How to Make SIMPLE Hand print Craft
- First, print out Nativity Hand Print Art Printable (Link at bottom of post) on white card stock. Use regular printer paper if you are planning to laminate or frame the artwork at the end. (see optional touches below).
- Second, pour out non-toxic paint on a paper plate. I recommend using gold or yellow paint to represent the star.
- Next, use a foam brush to evenly paint child’s hand.
- Then, help the child make a hand print in the blank sky.
- Finally, allow hand print to dry and you are done!
Additionally, feel free to have your child sign his/her name at the bottom if they are school-aged. Otherwise, the handprint is a good enough signature!
Don’t forget to date your child’s art print to keep track of when it was made.
Optional Touches For Art WORK
After the paint has dried, you (or your child) can also paint a white star in the middle of the palm. I recommend using white pain or another contrasting color so it shows up on the hand print.
You could also paint a different type of star or even a heart shape. Alternatively, use white paint pen to let your child sign their name. I like Sharpie’s Oil-based White Paint Marker as it marks clearly and is easy to write with.
This step is completely optional but does add a nice finishing touch to your art piece!
How to Gift Handprint Art
Thinking of creative ways to gift your child’s handprint art to grandparents, aunts, uncles, and more? Here are a few ideas:
- Laminate once you are finished. This helps protect the artwork from moisture, unexpected water damage, or simple crinkling up because it’s been misplaced!
- Put the art work in a nice frame. Parents of little ones will appreciate being able to hang up their child’s handprint art in the house.
- Punch 2 holes at the top and tie a ribbon. The ribbon will add a decorative touch to your art work. Additionally, you can hang up the art work using the back of the ribbon.
I personally LOVE the picture frame option as it makes the handprint art look SOOOOO nice! These 8.5″ x 11″ frames are my favorite as they come in a variety of colors.
Believe me, your child is going to be super delighted to frame their own handprint art and personally bring it to grandma or grandpa for Christmas.
